Life Plan

Front Squatting

Introduction

After High School I plan on joining the military. I want to become an infantryman in the U.S. Army. If I like doing that as a job enough I will try and become a Ranger or possibly even a Green Beret. I have not decided on whether or not I want to enlist or go to college to try and go to officer candidate school. But my goal is to excel at whatever it is that I’m doing. I want to be an elite soldier.

I decided to take this career path because being a soldier has always appealed to me. Having family that served in the military may influenced that in me. I want to give to a country that has given so much to me.

Physical Wellness

Physical wellness is being physically fit and healthy. We use this wellness everyday in life. It is something that should never be neglected but it often times is by people. I am someone who needs to have a strong Physical Wellness because I will be fighting for our country. This wellness is one of the more important ones to me. Although the other wellness can be just as important when being a soldier. On top of being a physically strong soldier, I feel that as a man it’s just important to be strong. Often times you will be looked at as the defender of the family. Or sometimes other men will challenge your strength and you will need to be able to defend yourself. People who are physically strong should not abuse their strength by using violence.

I plan on trying to be fit for the rest of my life. My personality has been changed so much due to the confidence boost from working out. And plus it’s just been completely more beneficial for me mentally as well. I feel like my mind is sharper because of it. I’m proud of how much I have accomplished and how far I have come. I also consider the possibility of me becoming a fitness trainer because I love to help people improve themselves. I just want to make a difference in people’s lives. I want to be able to prove to myself that I am strong and that I have grown from my past experiences as a child lacking in physical strength.

Intellectual Wellness

Intellectual Wellness means having a healthy mindset. It means being positive as possible and never accepting defeat. You believe in yourself. This is the second most important wellness to me because like physical wellness, intellectual wellness is important while fighting speaking in terms of the career path I’m choosing of course. You have to be smart on the battlefield. All my life I have strived for academic proficiency. I feel that this has helped intellectual wellness become one of my strong suits. I just don’t want to accept the fact that I am not smart so I’m constantly trying to prove to myself that I am intelligent and not an idiot. Perhaps that’s something that I should try and not do to myself as I don’t think that it is very healthy.

There was a time in my highschool career where I was always getting average grades. This was because I was too distracted by things that had nothing to deal with school. I’ve moved on from that. That mindset will not get you anywhere in life. I want to be something other than average. That’s essentially my only drive for excellence I suppose. Or perhaps it was the mistakes in my past that are driving me forward. I would hope to be able to use this wellness to get me a job that requires you to be very intelligent. Also those jobs seem to be pretty good when it comes to pay but hey that’s just a side benefit.

Spiritual Wellness

Spiritual Wellness means using personal values and beliefs in everyday life making sure you that you include them in your everyday life. I use this wellness a lot by trying to be the best person I can be everyday. I try to do my best to help my friends in need of advice or emotional support. I try to show them that I care by listening to their problems and helping them to solve it. Often times I find that people find that they can trust with their personal issues that they don’t normally tell me. This makes me feel good because they are right to trust me with that information. I feel it makes my relationship with that person stronger.

I also just genuinely care about people. Albeit, I show that I care through tough love sometimes. But it is truly because I care. I don’t want to see people fail. I want people to feel the mental reward from doing something good. I feel good when I was able to help someone and change their minds for the better. I try to be a person that only speaks the truth. Sometimes, what I perceive as the truth is the hard truth or maybe it’s the misconceived truth. Being truthful and honest with people earns their respect towards you more. I plan on being consistent with this way of life because I want it to define me. I want to be a helpful and honest person. I want to strive to be the best person that I can be.

Financial Wellness

Financial wellness is a common theme in my life because we use money. In my future I plan on being well off in life. I want to be able to support myself and my partner and children. I would like to have two kids and raise them the way my parents raised me. I want to be able to be financially stable enough to make their lives good. I really appreciate my parents for working as hard as they do, I don’t take the life that I have for granted. I am truly thankful. My parents being the normal parents that they are, want grandchildren and I intend on making sure that happens for them. For my budget plan, I plan on having a job so I will be able to pay for a car or maybe even move out to be roommates with a friend. Then I’ll use the rest of that money to take care of any living expenses. While I’m in school, I’ll probably just be working a minimum wage job and focusing on school. When I finish school I want to try and use my degrees to get a decent job.

My plan is to find out a job that  I will enjoy doing and earns me a lot of money. So that way, I will be doing my duty of providing for my family and at the same time I am doing something that I like. I don’t feel that I have to be rich to have a good life, but I want to make sure that my kids feel like they aren’t living in poverty and they are able to have nice things. I just hope they don’t turn out to be really spoiled. Currently my financial habits could be better, but I am doing my best to save money so I can invest into things later in my life. I’d like to be able to have my own house and a dodge challenger. Although, I don’t believe that living a materialistic life is going to guarantee my happiness.

Social Wellness

To achieve social wellness one must feel that they socialize with other people at a healthy amount. I used to be someone who didn’t socialize with others enough. I was basically a hermit who always hung out in their room all day. I wouldn’t even come down out of my room during family events. The problem was so bad I had become depressed because of it. I felt like I just didn’t get out enough and I didn’t talk to people enough. I knew I had a serious problem. One day I decided that I wanted to change. I didn’t want to continue living like that, it just doesn’t seem bery healthy to me. So I decided to make some new friends.

I made new friends and I began to regain my happiness. I felt better all around. I felt more motivated to do things. I made new friends that I always hang out with. I found out some of those friends weren’t actually my friends at all. It’s ok though, I know now who my real friends are and I shouldn’t bother making new friends because the one’s that I have now will always be there for me and have my back. I also won’t let these experiences get in the way of making new friends. I have to be fair to the people that haven’t done anything to me yet. In the future I’ll just remember to give people an outlet to do any damage to me emotional or physical.

Environmental Wellness

Environmental Wellness is something that you achieve through taking care of your surroundings. I try to do my best of taking care of my environment by cleaning up my trash and my messes I make. It irritates me when I see people make a mess and not clean it up. Especially here at Vista High School. I hate hearing about when people say this school is dirty and ghetto, yet the contribute to the issue by leaving their trash behind and not caring about the environment. Albeit, I’m not going around picking up everyone’s trash but I at least throw my trash away and make an effort to not litter? I’d hope that if anyone sees someone else throwing their garbage on the ground, or leaving it behind, that they tell that person to pick up their trash and throw it away.

It also bothers me when I see trash in the city that I live in. To me, that’s basically like going home and taking trash out from your garbage can and dumping it on your floor. If you ever litter, make sure you stop to pick it up, because the city you live in is your home, wouldn’t you want it to be beautiful? But enough ranting, I plan on achieving environmental wellness through the practice of cleaning up my house, my room, and maybe occasionally picking up trash off the street. I want the places that I live in to be beautiful and a pleasure to live in. To help try and achieve environmental wellness I plan on doing a beach clean-up to try and give back to the community. My resume.

Vocational Wellness

Vocational wellness means to obtain a state of healthy relationships with friends or a professional environment.  Vocational wellness is important because the relationships you have with your peers and your superiors is very important. I know that from experience that it’s bad to have a negative relationship with these people because you won’t be able to escape from them. You are trapped and forced to interact with them. You might as well be stuck in a cage with that person. So what I usually do is try to solve that issue with that person. Unfortunately, that of course doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes my friends turn into my enemies.

I’ve learned that the best way to try and counteract them is to just do your best to ignore them. At the end of the day, some of the people still try and talk to you. I tell them not to talk to me and do my best to ignore them but it feels weird when they just stare at you and try to make eye contact with you. Some of these people even get me angry to use violence but luckily I’ve been able to control myself enough so that I haven’t done anything. I do my best to put distance between me and the other person and avoid trouble. Some people just want to see your life in shambles. For me personally, I don’t care what you are doing in your life I just don’t want to be included in it.

For my career path, I’d like to be a counselor or a psychologist. What they do is talk to people about their problems and helps them solve them through psychological healing. To become a psychologist you will need to go to medical school and earn a doctor’s degree. It costs a total of $60,900 to be one. In this job field you specialize in social work. I got some information from this website: Link. My backup plan is to just join the military and maybe turn it into a career if I want to.

My Graduation Speech

School is something that I hate with a passion, yet I also love it with a passion. There is many things about it that make you not like it and there’s many things that will make you like it. For me personally, one event that I have grown from specifically is when I had learned that I am my own person. From the start of highschool, I had been a very reserved person, and just barely this year I started to open up. I decided that I didn’t want to be like that anymore so I grew from that. I’ve learned all throughout highschool that it’s very important that you are true to yourself. There’s no point in trying to attract a crowd of people by being something that you’re not. I’ve learned that multiple times the hard way. With that said, I’d like to personally thank each of the PLA teachers. I’ve seen that all of the PLA teachers work very hard for the students and they actually care about the students. I just want you all to know that I appreciate how hard you guys work for us and for you actually putting effort into teaching us. I would encourage all my classmates to recognize that in the teachers and thank them to. The PLA teachers here are one of the reasons I actually like to come to school. They don’t make me feel like they don’t care and they actually work with you to solve issues. I hope that whatever any of my fellow classmates are doing, that you excel at it. Don’t settle for an ok job whatever it might be, do what you love and be good at it.

Detroit: The Fall of The Motor City

                                                                           Detroit, MI

Today in class we watched a documentary about the current financial situation in Detroit and why things are the way they are in Detroit.

”Why is General Motors walking away with billions while Detroit dies?

General motors is walking away with all the money that they have because they were specifically bailed out by the government. The city as a whole was not. The most important thing about the city was the American auto industry there and not the people of Detroit. Frankly, I think that the automotive industry there was the only thing good about it in the eyes of the government. Of course, bailing them out wasn’t the best choice as we see that the city still isn’t out of debt.

“What is next for the Motor City (Detroit)?”

The next thing for Detroit is to either slowly die out completely, or find another outlet to come back with. It’s pretty clear that the automotive industry won’t save them, that moment in time where the city thrived off of that is long gone. I’m not a financial expert nor have I ever lived in Detroit, but my prediction is that it will continue to decline. But then again, the suffering in Detroit also breeds creation so you never know what could happen.

The pain of Paying…

When do I feel the most pain when spending money? When do I feel the least pain? I feel the most pain when I have physical money in my hand. I can see how much it is and I have to physically part with it. Also when I have physical paper money in my hands I am more prone to spending it ironically. The best way for me to save money is to use my debit card because when I spend money on my debit card I can’t see how much money I have saved up in my bank so I feel more cautious about spending it. I always like to keep my bank account at a certain amount of money, if I go any less than my set bar then I start feeling like I am overdoing it with the spending.

I feel the least pain when I buy something under $5 dollars. If I spend anymore than that I start feeling the pain of spending. The reason I can get away with spending up to 5 dollars is I just tell myself that it’s not that big of a loss, even though at the end of the day it all builds up. I try to not go overboard with enjoying myself and try to spend wisely so I wont feel bad.

Why Are Teenagers So Brand Conscious?

Why do us teenagers care so much about the things we wear and which brands are the coolest? Scientific research aside I speak from experience. You just like looking good and wearing widely recognized brands for their high quality or appealing designs. If you don’t wear widely recognized brands or off brands, you could be called out on it. Of course the easy solution to that is to simply feel comfortable about what you’re wearing. For me personally, I like to wear a certain brand of clothing because I want to represent it or perhaps the quality of the clothing is good, or even the design of it is just appealing to me. I don’t feel me wearing name brand clothing has anything to do with fitting in. I think that sometimes adults over think things and make connections where they aren’t necessary when it comes to the scientific research.

How To: Dressing

“Call me Ranch cuz’ I be dressin'”

An activity that I know very well is dressing up. Of course this is my personal opinion and some people might disagree in a sense that they don’t like my style. So let’s say that you are someone with no real sense of style. And perhaps maybe you would like to present yourself in the best was possible. The first step would be to figure out your body type. Certain types of clothes will compliment clothes more than others will.

The second step is to figure out your style. This can all depend on what type of person you are, perhaps you want to look classy and a bit older. Or, maybe you’d rather sport a youthful look and dress like a skater. Or there is even the casual laid back/fitness lover attire which is always a good luck anywhere in the U.S.

The third step is to of course be confident in yourself. If you like the way YOU look in something then wear it! The only person you should dress for is yourself. And remember, one of the most important things to remember is to always look symmetrical. Humans like symmetry. If you take my advice, you will be the most aesthetically pleasing version of yourself all the time.

My Thoughts On “Inequality for All”

When I began watching this movie, I originally thought that it was just going to be another mindless rant about why capitalism and wall street is bad and what not. But the more I watched the movie the more I realized that this movie was a genuine concern for the future of America. I feel this movie especially applies to me because I am someone who is going to go to college and make a life for me soon. But the unfortunate truth is that it isn’t like the old days. Nowadays people don’t move out when they’re 18. Now the best strategic plan is to stay with your parents until you’re in your 20s!

More on the movie though, a part that really stuck with me was the flat-line in the growth in education. I think that it’s very important that education is high on the priority list. I consider myself a patriot. I think that to be the top country on the planet, we have to have an educated society. I also happen to have a strong belief that the education system is failing, as it seems the bar is constantly being lowered.

Another part of the film that made me really think “wow I need to think more about that” is the fact that Robert Reich said that the problem is that wealthy people aren’t spending enough money. Because with the spending of their money, increases the growth of the economy. I completely agree with this. I can see that wealthy people aren’t spending their money because they’re planning for the future. Which I also understand. Clearly there needs to be a balance for everything. I think that perhaps when I have more free-time, I will look deeper into this matter. I have never looked at this issue from any other point other than a political.

Health Fair Project: Strength Training

                                              Wikipedia.com

For my health fair project, I decided to do mine on strength training. The reason I chose strength training is because I am a strength trainer. So I figured if I’m already passionate about it, it will be easy to write about. And I was right. What I did to demonstrate my knowledge of strength training is I first did a research paper. I wrote about what strength training means and how to do it. I wrote about what it takes to be a strength trainer. Anyone can be a strength trainer in truth though. After I finished my research paper I created a brochure. It was supposed to imitate a travel brochure.

My travel brochure contained compacted information about strength training. I created in under 20 minutes in a google document. After I was finished with the prototype I reviewed it and then turned it into my teacher to have her review it. She claimed that it was good and I didn’t really have to change it up at all. I decided to add a few more bits of information to it before I had my brochures printed out. The finished product came out pretty nice. After I got done with my brochure I then began work on my display.

I made my display in around 2 hours. It was obviously about strength training. It was almost like a bigger version of the brochure just with more graphics and in a bigger size. I am pleased with the result of my display. I spent a lot of time drawing the graphics on it and creating the title. Although, I wish my calligraphy skills were better so that way when you read my hand writing it was a bit neater and more aesthetically pleasing. This is often times the reason I prefer to type rather than write.

Bank Manager – Ask Me Anything (about banks)

        Shutterstock.com

In math class we were given the opportunity to speak to a bank branch manager. The question that I asked the bank branch manager, also known as Eric, is “what is credit and how does it work?” What Eric had told my group was credits are basically like points with the bank. You earn points with the bank by making payments on time. You can also lose points by being late on your payments. Even checking your credit score can make you lose credit. The two questions I’d like to ask regarding credit are how do I get a credit card, and which bank offers the best rates for credit card usage.

Researching my follow up questions I have found out that to get a credit card you have to apply for it. You have to have good credit, then the bank has to approve you for the card. You also must be at least 18 years old. The bank that offers the best rates for credit card usage is apparently Citi bank. There Diamond Preferred Card offers low interest for everyday spending and their Double Cash Card offers no annual fee. Overall, I feel that this was a good experience and it helped me learn about credit which I was genuinely curious about.

Technono and You…

                                     Literally the average millennial…

The stereotypes that we are investigating is that the millennial generation are addicted to technology and lack communication skills. This topic is controversial based on  how many individuals believe that people born into the millennial are easily attracted to technology because we were the first to be brought up around it.

Some argue that it’s false because people know how to have face-to-face communication and know how to put down the phone. “Younger Millennials access social media sites more on their laptops than mobile devices, while Older Millennials log in more on mobile apps. Regardless of device, both groups are checking in socially between 20 and 21 hours each monthNeilson. The people who are mostly involved are individuals born in the millennial time stamp.

They can be any race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. It affects people’s relationships with their significant other, even family members. The typical millennials are the teenagers who are always on their phones not knowing that they are causing emotional harm.

50% of teens feel addicted to their phones it stated in one article, 73% have access to a smartphone while only 15% have basic ones, and the brain isn’t fully developed until we reach the age of 25 so if we have cell phone addictions that happen at a young age it could have negative implications on the brain. Some causes are the different devices in which many people think can lead some to believe that people can’t live without getting the latest technology or the need for having the fastest network. Some of the effects are damaging the bond with your significant other and family.

It also affects how people perceive who you are. It is an epidemic that is happening everywhere where there is access to social media and the internet. Our proposal is to devise a system or construct a plan or possibly even create an event that brings people outdoors. We believe that we should visit the outside world more. more involved in school. Many parents are taking control in having to limit their kids to technology. Some people are oblivious to what is actually happening around the world. Anybody has the power to fix the problem. I would propose that schools talk to parents about the consequences and making sure kids aren’t using technology for the wrong reasons. We will use social media and other outlets such as pamphlets to raise awareness on the situation.

Freakonomics and Humans Susceptibility to Gambling

                                            Gambling is a problem.

Today I listened to a podcast that I found quite intriguing. They discussed how people would rather take the chance of getting a life changing sum of money than something that is stable. Banks would prey on people because of this and as such have developed a system that is like a lottery in the bank. This because lotteries not run by the state are illegal. Which in my opinion could be a bad thing but maybe a good thing too.

Many other banks had caught on to this idea and decided to make some money for themselves. For example, First National Bank or FNB, had created a system to bring in new customers to their bank. What they did is pool all their 2.5% interests and made a lottery out of it. They then offered the use of their bank to the winner. In doing so, they increased the number of customers by over 1 million. Proving that when there is a low risk and high payout people will more than likely try to receive that payout.
